Hi, I'm Shifra!

I'm an editorial specialist at the Pew Research Center, where I work on the organization's data journalism blog, Short Reads.

I just wrapped up a reporting fellowship at NOTUS, where I covered politics and policy with a focus on energy and the environment. While there, I wrote data-driven stories, including a piece on disappearing federal data (which I discussed on NPR's Marketplace), broke news on energy funding and dove into the downstream effects of federal policy decisions.

Other pst stops include the University of Maryland (where I earned dual bachelor's degrees in journalism and environmental science and policy), the Dow Jones News Fund (where I interned in data journalism at the Connecticut Mirror and in multiplatform editing at Stars and Stripes), the Frederick News-Post and the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism.

I was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. When I'm not reporting, I enjoy reading and hiking. Feel free to reach out and chat!
